Final Coursework Piece:

Monday

Social network promotions

From my research into theatrical trailers I discovered a large majority of films and film companies have not only their own website, but also pages on Facebook and Twitter. I decided to create my own social network pages to easily connect with 'fans' and 'followers' of my film which can appeal across the globe. Moreover, these social network websites are free to use and set up accounts and considering the amount of users signed up to these websites (Facebook has more than 800 million active users), it's evident these websites are the easiest promoters for any media product.

Sunday

Casting

My theatrical trailer has only a few main characters yet does feature a host of minor characters such as gangsters for violent scenes. After thinking extensively about each role and who I believed would suit the role I asked the potential actors, who all gladly agreed.
The acting cast consists of:

Alan Andrews
as The Protagonist/ 'The Suit'

I believe Alan had the look of a young Christopher Reeves, who was famous for his
role as Superman. Furthermore, as Alan does kick boxing and martial arts I know he will be perfect for action scenes.

Chloe Tetu as The Girlfriend

Chloe is an attentive and tranquil person, so I believe she is perfect for the role as the ambiguous but highly inspirational character who essentially is the centre of the Protagonist's world.

Matthew Jones as The Gangster

Matt can be a loud character at times so I felt he would fit the role as the threatening gangster who ends up at 'T
he Suit's mercy.

Ryan Malster as The Driver

Ryan is an experienced driver who I have worked with on past production '30 Days Earlier'. Considering his scenes are fairly challenging to film, I feel his expertise will help greatly before I film.

Alex Barham as The Politician

I play the politician in the news report watched by The Protagonist. I feel the intertexuality needs to be perfect for the
quick scene so I have decided to employ myself with smart attire for the specific effect I want to achieve.

Thursday

The Identicals trailer

This is a test theatrical trailer I recently created with an original story. I decided to make this to test out the video camera I will eventually use and become accustom to its features. I also felt it was a good opportunity to try out unique shot types and narrative techniques I could employ for my final theatrical trailer.

Sequence characters

My theatrical trailer has many minor characters who play a small part to the plot yet there is also a fair few of main characters that are shown throughout.

The Protagonist

The Protagonist, who is without a name (like in Fight Club and Following), is a man made redundant. Worried for his girlfriend more than himself, he attempts to get a job anyway possible. He appears quite a selfless character but it also seems he's love-struck; being almost obsessed with his girlfriend. Furthermore, this trait could hide his individualism.

The Suit

'The Suit' is the Protagonist's superhero persona and the protector of London. 'The Suit' is extremely violent and usually leaves criminals in damaging states as he believes they deserve no better.

The Girlfriend

Whilst the girlfriend is fairly unseen, she plays a major role in the plot. She has an underlying love for the Protagonist and like him, seems lovestruck. Her absence in the trailer makes her an ambiguous character audiences will want to see more of. Her relationship with the Protagonist could also represent the 'starcrossed lovers' Romeo and Juilet.

Gangster Boss

Not much is seen of the Gangster Boss, he's primarily the reason why the Protagonist becomes 'The Suit' as he sees the character's seediness. He also appears during the end of the trailer when 'The Suit' attempts to fraud a crime and put the blame on him.

The Driver

The Driver is concerned for the Protagonist and asks him various questions about redundancy throughout the trailer. This is mainly for plot reveal but also how distressing the subject of redundancy is.

Title narrative

As my theatrical trailer is in anachoric order, which I would also intend the feature film to be;
I've decided to make my narrative brief and simple, like the synopsis of Memento:

"A man, suffering from short-term memory loss, uses notes and tattoos to hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife." - IMDb

'The Suit'

A man made redundant is forced to search for any job possible. Fairly unsucessful in his hunt, he becomes the superhero 'The Suit' to relieve his stress and accidentally gets rewarded for his efforts. Consumed with income, 'The Suit' becomes more and more concerned for his own sake than others.

Monday

Audience surveys

I created several surveys for a selected audience to answer, based around the superhero genre.

Mood board

My mood board focuses on all my inspirations for my theatrical trailer, possible costumes, possible locations and postmodernist ideas I could employ.

Theatrical trailer script

This is script for my theatrical trailer. I shall use this along with both of my storyboards when I shoot footage to understand my previous intentions.

This is an overview of my posting schedule. However, this is subject to change and I may discard certain posts.

Intended target audience

Considering I already had a rough idea of creating a superhero film, I believe I could appeal to a wide audience from 12 - 40+ years across most demographics. However, as I figured out my narrative and worked on my postmodern, genre challenging plot, I started to reassess my original audience.

Rough idea for audience:

Male/ female from 12 - 40+ year.

D - B3 demographic - working to upper middle class.

Specific audience profile:

As I was undertaking surveys at this time, I decided to query the survey audience on who they thought would be appealed to watch my theatrical trailer after reading a synopsis and character outlines.

Final intended target audience:

Male/ female from 15 - 30+ years.

D - B1 demographic, working to lower middle class.
